Kiko Billiard Leather Wrap African Meerschaum Lined Pipe - The billiard pipe bowl of this Kiko model African meerschaum pipe is lined with genuine African meerschaum. The pipe features a beautiful leather wrapping around the bowl and shank of hand-sewn, light brown peccary skin. The light texture of the leather offers a solid grip in the hand. The pipe has a solid metal fitting in the shank. The long shank attaches to a vulcanite stem. The Kilimanjaro rhinoceros logo is stamped in white on the side of the black straight stem.

This is an authentic meerschaum pipe from Africa, and although the pipe is over a half century old, it is unsmoked, in excellent condition, and truly a unique find. Stamped in the leather is "Kiko" with the model number 286 on one side of the shank. The other side is stamped "Made in Tanganyika." The pipe comes with its original box with the Kiko name printed on the top and Genuine Amboseli Meerschaum on the side. The box shows minimal wear and tear. Their name, Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation Limited, along with their elephant logo, is printed on the box. An original small booklet telling the history of meerschaum with a description and pictures of the different African pipe styles is also included.

In 1955, Kenyan businessmen from Nairobi established the Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation after a meerschaum mine was discovered close to the surface on Mount Kilimanjaro. The meerschaum from this part of East Africa was known to be tougher, less porous, and priced less than Turkish meerschaum. Tanganyika and Zanzibar merged and became known as Tanzania in October of 1964. The company closed soon after.

Although the pipe is over a half century old, it is unsmoked in brand-new, pristine condition. The pipe comes with its original box, which shows minimal wear and tear.
