The Artist Ismail Ozel Signed Smooth Meerschaum Pipe - The Artist, Ismail Ozel, carved a smooth, polished pipe with a Dublin rim and a volcano bowl shape. There is ample space for tobacco to be packed in the deep pipe bowl. His signature, "Artist Ismail Ozel Turkey," is located on the side of the smooth shank. The bending stem is a lovely shade of yellow. In our collection, this piece is an older pipe. In addition to being a fantastic tobacco smoking pipe and conversation starter, it's a superb addition to any collection!

We met "The Artist" in his shop in Eskisehir back in the early 1970s. He specialized in large pieces, and with the current prices, very few customers could afford his pipes. At this time meerschaum was not yet popular in the U.S. Headed by Irving Korn, Royal Meerschaum Pipes commissioned him to carve large pieces to bring into the U.S., and he carved perfect pieces of museum quality. One year Mr. Korn flew him to the U.S. for an industry pipe trade show. During the show, he demonstrated his carving for the attendees. The Artist was an incredible carver who unfortunately started becoming blind around 2000, and he passed away shortly thereafter. Many of his pieces are in museums around the world and also in private collections. He is recognized as one of the greatest carvers of meerschaum during the 20th century.

This meerschaum pipe is hand-carved from genuine 100% solid block meerschaum, and it is imported directly from central Turkey. After carving the pipe, it is dipped in beeswax to provide a protective coating, which also helps to draw out smoke particles and tar. The pipe will change color over time as it is smoked. The stem is made from a special Amberoid acrylic, which provides a great finished look and long-lasting durability.

Since it is hand-carved, each solid block meerschaum pipe we sell is a one-of-a-kind work of art. This hand-carved meerschaum pipe comes in a handmade brass-hinged chest covered in blue velvet and padded and lined on the inside in blue.
