Bekler Tiki 1982 Limited Edition Meerschaum Pipe - For both pipe and Tiki fans alike, this Bekler carving is a rare vintage find. In 1982, Bekler carved a limited edition of tiki-themed pipes, and this meerschaum pipe is numbered 53 out of 100. The tiki motif is a full figure carved with exaggerated facial features; in this pipe, a wide grimacing mouth and fierce elongated eyes. The pipe was carved from a piece of premium 100% solid block meerschaum, is lightweight, and has an exceptionally deep pipe bowl. On the side of the shank is a carved signature of I. Bekler. A CAO brass branding dot is found on the side of a pearlescent, light orange, bent stem. The pipe can stand firmly and not tumble over thanks to its flat bottom. Inscribed on this surface are the words "82 TIKI No. 53 of 100."

This meerschaum pipe was hand-carved from genuine 100% solid block meerschaum, and it was imported directly from central Turkey. After carving the pipe, it was dipped in beeswax to provide a protective coating, which also helps to draw out smoke particles and tar. The pipe will change color over time as it is smoked.

Since each solid block meerschaum pipe we offer is carved by hand, it is a one-of-a-kind piece of art. This unique hand-carved meerschaum pipe is presented in a brown leather handmade case with a brass hinge and velvet lining on the interior. The pipe case was custom-made for this specific Bekler meerschaum pipe.

Ismet Bekler was a prolific and popular carver when Mr. Irving Korn discovered him in the early 1970s during one of his trips to Turkey. Around 1977 a company named CAO (who at that time was primarily affiliated with Tinder Box pipe shops) contracted with Bekler to sell all of his carvings to them. CAO wanted to make Bekler a more well-known carver in the US, and it was at this time he began signing his pipes. Since CAO wanted more production and higher quantities of his pipes, Bekler stopped doing all the work himself. Although Bekler still did the basic carving, he let others in his workshop do the sanding, waxing, and fitting the bit to the pipes.

Bekler is known as one of the best carvers in the history of Turkish Meerschaum. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 84.
