Smooth Skull in Backward Claw Meerschaum Pipe

Smooth Skull in Backward Claw Meerschaum Pipe - A dramatic elongated profile gives this Smooth Skull in Backward Claw Meerschaum Pipe a distinctive sculptural appearance. The skull is carved with a broad forehead, recessed eyes, defined cheekbones, exposed teeth, and a prominent jaw, while the smooth surfaces are polished to a high-gloss finish that emphasizes the natural creamy-white meerschaum.

Rather than a traditional claw positioned beneath the bowl, the design incorporates a backward-facing claw that wraps around the rear of the skull. Carved talons and textured details extend toward the shank, creating an unusual transition from the portrait bowl into the long, sweeping profile.

A slender Amberoid acrylic stem continues the elongated shape with a graceful upward bend. Swirls of honey, golden amber, and darker accents provide warm contrast against the polished meerschaum. A Teflon push-pull fitting provides a secure connection and allows convenient stem removal for cleaning and maintenance.

Hand-carved in Turkey from genuine 100% solid block meerschaum, the pipe is finished with natural beeswax to help protect the polished surface and encourage gradual coloring. Naturally porous, meerschaum is valued for its cool, dry, neutral smoking qualities, and no traditional break-in period is required. With continued smoking, the creamy-white surface can gradually develop warmer honey, golden, and amber tones, creating a patina unique to the pipe.

Individual hand carving gives each pipe its own character, making this unusual skull and backward claw design especially appealing for collectors of figural meerschaum pipes. A custom-fitted burgundy leather case with a soft velvet lining and brass-tone hardware is included for storage and protection.

With its polished skull portrait, backward-facing claw, high-gloss finish, and elongated sweeping profile, this solid block Turkish meerschaum pipe offers a distinctive variation on the traditional claw design.
